Santa Barbara Commercial Real Estate Articles

Santa Barbara Commercial Realty, Presented by Pacifica Commercial Realty.

Pacifica Commercial Realty, a leader in the Santa Barbara commercial real estate market, is pleased to announce the leasing of 20,051 square feet of office and industrial to FLIR Systems, Inc.

The facility at 55 Castilian Drive in Goleta has recently been repositioned by the East Group. This former Hendy Manufacturing building has been rehabbed and into a business incubator named Castilian Research & Technology Center.

Gregory P. Bartholomew and Mark J. Mattingly of Pacifica Commercial Realty represented FLIR Systems, Inc. in the transaction. Mr. Bartholomew and Mr. Mattingly, specialists in sales and leasing of Santa Barbara commercial real estate, have represented FLIR in all of their local real estate transactions. Over the past six months, FLIR has been searching for more clean room and production space. The space at Castilian Reasearch & Technology Center works nicely for FLIR as it is located directly across the street from FLIR’s local headquarters and the space has been designed for research & development companies.

FLIR Systems, Inc., is now the anchor tenant of the property occupying approximately 54% of the building signed a five-year lease. This space will be used for research, development and assembly of FLIR’s infrared cameras. Those cameras are used in a wide variety of applications including: automobiles, maritime, law enforcement, security and aviation.

FLIR Systems is a world leader in the design, manufacturing, and marketing of thermal imaging and stabilized camera systems for a wide variety of thermography and imaging applications including condition monitoring, research and development, manufacturing process control, airborne observation and broadcast, search and rescue, drug interdiction, surveillance and reconnaissance, navigation safety, border and maritime patrol, environmental monitoring and land-based security.

With this expansion, FLIR now occupies approximately 135,000 square feet of office and manufacturing space in three other nearby locations in Goleta. The company’s operations in Goleta were formerly known as indigo Systems. FLIR purchased Indigo in 2003 for approximately $190 million.
